How many 14ers are there in Colorado?
This can be a point of contention depending on who you ask! We ascribe to the count of 53. Though not an official rule, a commonly understood guideline says that to be ranked, a peak must have at least 300 feet of prominence. This is the amount of elevation it rises above the lowest saddle that connects to the nearest, higher peak. Therefore, the following peaks are not ranked because they lack sufficient prominence. However, they are on many 14er lists because they are named and recognized on USGS maps: Mt. Cameron, El Diente Peak, Challenger Point, North Eolus, and Conundrum Peak.

Which was your favorite 14er?
Yikes, now that's a tough one. I have so many great memories in the mountains of Colorado, it's difficult to pin down one peak as my favorite, but here goes: My favorite peaks are the so-called difficult peaks; the ones that strike some fear in your gut when planning the ascent. The ones that make your palms sweat when packing your bag. The ones that take you to the edge of your comfort zone, and then beyond. The peaks that stand out to me in those regards are a who's who of 14er summits; Capitol, Little Bear, The Crestones, The Bells; you know them. If I had to pick just one 14er, though, the peak has to encompass something magical, some distinct element that is unique, even among 14ers. I venture to say that Mount Eolus is my favorite 14er.
